Located in Burwood your ‘host mother’ is in her mid-40s and enjoys her work in a professional office. She also holds qualifications such as being a Cambridge CELTA-certified English Language teacher, as well as holding a Bachelor of Communication (Communication Management and Linguistics fields) from Massey University. Meanwhile, your ‘host father’ is an experienced business owner in his late 50s who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our home. Having travelled, both of us have developed an appreciation for diverse countries and cultures, making us great companions for your ‘kiwi homestay’ and English language journey.
There is a bus stop right outside the gate. Hop on the number 60 bus to the Christchurch Bus Exchange or explore the malls and shops along the popular Orbiter bus route, just minutes away from The Palms Shopping Mall. Explore local amenities such as enjoying a stroll in Bottle Lake Forest, a refreshing swim or gym workout at Taiora Recreational Centre or spending a relaxing afternoon at New Brighton Beach. The Palms Shopping Centre is close by, along with a library, post office, pharmacy, bank, supermarket, food court and other shops.
Your room features good natural light, a queen-sized bed and linen, wardrobe, desk, chair, lamp and personal laundry basket solely for your private use. The two lounge areas are equipped with TV, Wifi, Netflix, and Disney for you to enjoy if you would like to. We understand and appreciate however that if you are studying that this will take a great deal of your time and that you may prefer to spend time in your room on your computer.
The ‘extra’ highlight of your stay lies in the personally customised private ESOL tutoring lessons that can be offered as an additional service by your host mother. With expertise and understanding, she can guide you through individually tailored language lessons to meet your needs, helping you build competence and fluency in English at an accelerated pace to assist with the achievement of your goals whilst in NZ.
We have 2 cute small miniature schnauzer dogs. We are happy to meet you at the airport upon arrival or provide parking if you're travelling by car. We are keen for you to share your favourite dishes with us, and we'll gladly reciprocate by introducing you to the flavours of New Zealand.
Our interests include movies, dog walks, board games, quiz nights, motocycles (host father). Let us help you create unforgettable memories whilst embarking on a journey of language, culture, and friendship.
***Please note that our 24 year old Chinese male university student is currently booked to stay with us until August 2024. Therefore, we are unable to host additional Chinese guests during this period, as this is a requirement of his homestay organisation.
